An emerging brain-scan technology called diffuse optical tomography ( DOT  ) can determine which part of the brain does more work than another by shining dozens of LED lights on a patient’s head to detect brain-tissue color changes. DOT has already been used on small areas of the brain, but the technology’s latest version can now scan two-thirds of the brain, Washington Univ. in St. Louis researchers said.
